Samuel Parker US Senate Candidate for Utah
SAM'S CAMPAIGN

Utah residents, fellow citizens, and friends from around the world: welcome to the official website for Sam Parker’s campaign for the US Senate from Utah.

Sam has called Utah home since 1995, and he has deep ancestral roots here that go back to the 1850s. His great-great-grandfather once owned the best beer hall in Salt Lake City: Fountains Beer Hall on Main Street—one block south of Temple Square. His grandchild—Sam's grandfather—later eloped...to the LDS Manti Temple, in 1933.

Perhaps it's this "rebellious" streak—re-emergent in alternating generations of his family tree—that compels Sam to run against former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for the US Senate.

As a youngster, Sam read anything he could get his hands on. His life and destiny were forever affected when he chanced upon Milton & Rose Friedman's Free To Choose in a used-book bin in junior high. He grew up playing soccer, basketball, baseball and ping-pong. In high school he was a member of USA Table Tennis, and also competed in the Westinghouse Science Talent Search and the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium based on his high school research with wheat germ DNA.

Sam graduated salutatorian of Centralia Senior High School in 1995, and then served an LDS mission to Mérida, Mexico, from 1996-98. In 2001, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors of Science in Molecular Biology. He worked for several years in research and development at the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Utah and at the ARUP Institute for Clinical and Experimental Pathology in research park in Salt Lake City. While there, he helped develop the current protocol that screens Utah newborns for a variety of genetic disorders.

After leaving ARUP, he earned his MBA in finance and management from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University in 2009. In addition to his career in biotech, he’s worked for the Chicago Cubs in Baseball Operations and Zions Bancorp in Sales Strategy/Operations and Corporate Finance. He’s also been a member of the Big Alliance, a fund-raising and promotional arm of Big Brothers Big Sisters Utah. Sam served as a state delegate to the last 2 state GOP conventions. Currently, he resides in Salt Lake City (Millcreek) where he serves as a volunteer for the Convention of States movement. Sam plays the trumpet and dabbles on the piano. Most importantly, he profoundly believes in what some call the "American Trinity": liberty, E Pluribus Unum, and "In God We Trust."
